1 April 2026 - Effective immediately, all Blood on the Clocktower scripts are to be sorted by SAO (Standard Alphabetical Order).

At The Pandemonium Institute, we believe that a core principle of good game design is simplicity and ease of understanding - and what’s easier than ABC? Starting today, we’re demonstrating our commitment to the ABCs of game design by literally sorting every character on every script in alphabetical order. Gone are the days of grouping characters by character type and ability text. Washerwoman? More like wash-your-way-to-the-bottom-of-the-script! Assassins, ascend! Zombuuls… never change.

Standard Alphabetical Order has many benefits when compared to the previous Sort Order. For example, players can no longer meta others’ alignments based on whether that player has pointed to the top or bottom of the script. Now, your players might shout things like, “I saw her point at the top of the script - she’s clearly the Al-Hadikhia!” or “They were pointing towards the bottom of the page - I trust that they’re both Village Idiots.”

Most exciting of all, if you’re playing Blood on the Clocktower in a different language, Standard Alphabetical Order might change. In English, you’ll find the Yaggababble at the bottom of the script, but in Czech, the Blabla Jaga soars to the top! This helps keep players on their toes - exactly what you want when playing the game in a new language.

Crucially, the transition to Standard Alphabetical Order has highlighted some shortcomings in our current character repertoire - namely, the lack of characters starting with the letter Q. Henceforth, the Butler has been renamed to the Qutler. It is now approximately 4% more cute than the original.

Join us for a special stream on Twitch (twitch.tv/thepandemoniuminstitute) to celebrate the new Standard Alphabetical Order on April 1 at 10 PM BST / 5 PM EDT / 8 AM AEDT (2 April)!

If Standard Alphabetical Order isn't your thing, you can return to legacy SAO in the online app by expanding the character sheet and clicking the "sort" button at the bottom of the list.
